Candidate statement

I am a young professional with assurance and advisory experience at firms ranging from Big 4 to local. I also have recent experience with educational programs through other professional bodies. I believe my age and diversity of experience offers a unique perspective that is underrepresented in governance; therefore, I intend to give the youngest cohort of CPAs a voice in charting the course for the profession.

What do you see impacting the CPA profession, and how can CPA Alberta best respond?

Information moves exponentially faster now than it did a short time ago. Files used to be paper, prepared with pencils and clunky calculators; meetings could only be in person, and documents were sent by mail. Today, files are electronic, prepared with laptops from the office or home; meetings are on Zoom, and documents are transferred instantly. Through those significant changes, CPAs have maintained trust in the profession. Machine learning, automation, and AI are the tools that will drive tomorrow’s shift in the way organizations communicate and process information. CPA Alberta can lead that change by providing members and students of the profession with practical education that makes those tools accessible to all practitioners and maintains trust in the profession.

How do your skills and background position you to positively contribute to the CPA Alberta Board and lead the governance of the profession?

My experience in assurance, valuations, litigation support, and forensics all have one common thread—trust. Being an expert with a commitment to ethics allows me to provide value to the clients I serve. As a board member, I will bring those values to the table and ensure CPA Alberta remains a trusted resource for its members as they navigate the changing landscape driven by new ways to communicate. As a younger member of the profession who grew up with constant advances in communication and information processing technology, I am comfortable with change and recognize the opportunity it presents.
