Candidate statement

My recent work has focused on consulting finance leaders and their teams on how to be more efficient, effective, and impactful for their organizations. The most common challenge I hear from CPAs is the desire to “get a seat at the table” to drive business impact. This is a fundamental challenge for our profession as the operating environment becomes more complex and stakeholder expectations grow. Albertans needs CPAs to help address critical challenges surrounding productivity, affordability, and sustainability. I want to advocate for our entire profession to have a seat at the table. This is why I am seeking your support to represent our members on the CPA Alberta Board.

What do you see impacting the CPA profession, and how can CPA Alberta best respond?

The business and political environment we operate in is changing faster than ever. This includes new reporting standards in areas such as sustainability, emerging technologies such as GenAI, and an increasingly polarized political environment. With these changes, I have seen many finance leaders lose influence where other functions have developed capabilities in areas such as business analytics, process automation, and sustainability reporting. As a profession, we need to recognize that we are not entitled to lead tomorrow and that we will need to embrace the pace of change to continue to play a critical role.

To me this means ensuring that all current and future CPA Alberta members can obtain the skills to respond to these transformational changes. Working with agility to equip our members with the skills employers will demand tomorrow is the best path to continue to drive eminence, respect, and compensation for our members.

How do your skills and background position you to positively contribute to the CPA Alberta Board and lead the governance of the profession?

My role gives me the opportunity to work with aspiring and current CPAs across all age groups, role levels, and industries. I have benefitted from diverse experience working in a multinational firm, an owner-managed practice, a public company, and two growth-stage technology companies. This experience has helped me understand the diverse challenges that our members face.

My work is at the forefront of the transformational changes impacting our profession. These are topics that I am passionate about and have presented to our members through organizations such as CPA Alberta and GFOA Alberta. This experience will make me a valuable voice for the Board as we navigate these changes.

The Governance Committee is seeking nominees who have both received their designation in 2014 or later and have international experience. I can add both perspectives as a 2014 CPA with international experience working in Hong Kong.
