Over the last two decades, I have gained wealth of experience across national and international landscapes, spanning the private sector, not-for-profit organizations, and government sectors. My diverse background and international experience have provided me with a diverse perspective and a deep understanding of the intricate challenges facing accounting professionals nationally and internationally across organizations. I have navigated multifaceted challenges, from regulatory compliance to fiscal management. These experiences have equipped me with a nuanced understanding of governance structures, risk management principles, and regulatory frameworks—key competencies essential for upholding ethical standards and maintaining public trust in the accounting profession. Throughout my career, I have spearheaded initiatives in quality assurance and technology usage, demonstrating a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

Additionally, I have been actively engaged in initiatives promoting diversity, inclusion, and social responsibility within the accounting profession. Through my involvement with civil society organizations, and volunteer stints, I have championed initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of belonging and advancing equitable practices—a critical imperative in today's diverse and interconnected world.

If elected, I will be committed to leveraging my skills, experience, and passion for the profession to address these challenges head-on.

What do you see impacting the CPA profession, and how can CPA Alberta best respond?

The CPA profession is facing a multitude of transformative changes driven by technological advancements, evolving regulatory landscapes, and shifting market dynamics. One of the impacts on the profession is the rapid integration of artificial intelligence and automation, which is reshaping traditional accounting practices and demanding a new set of skills and competencies from CPAs.

Additionally, globalization and the interconnectedness of economies are creating both opportunities and challenges for CPAs, requiring them to navigate complex international regulations and standards while staying abreast of emerging trends and best practices.

In response to these challenges, CPA Alberta can position itself by embracing innovation and leveraging technology to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of accounting processes.

Lastly, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among members, industry partners, and regulatory bodies will be crucial in staying ahead of emerging trends and addressing the evolving needs of stakeholders.

How do your skills and background position you to positively contribute to the CPA Alberta Board and lead the governance of the profession?

My extensive professional career spanning various sectors, including the private sector, not-for-profit organizations, and government agencies, has equipped me with a diverse skill set and a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the accounting profession in Alberta.

Having served in director-level positions in financial services within the Government of Alberta, I have gained invaluable experience in governance, strategic planning, and policy development. My tenure in these roles has honed my ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and implement effective governance structures that uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability.

My background has provided me with hands-on experience in managing diverse teams, fostering collaboration, and driving organizational growth. I have a proven track record of implementing innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency and drive sustainable business outcomes.

My voluntary involvement further demonstrates my commitment to giving back to the community and contributing to the advancement of the profession.
