Candidate statement

I lead with a growth mindset and a passion to ensure that services delivered by CPAs remain relevant, provide insight for decision- making, and are trusted by the customers we serve. We must embrace the rapid social and professional transformation around us with a priority to learn new ways of delivering business value, address risks that are changing with the landscape, and foster a culture that attracts the best talent.

What do you see impacting the CPA profession, and how can CPA Alberta best respond?

Key factors impacting the CPA profession today include the rapid advancement in technology, evolving regulatory frameworks, environmental challenges, and the changing needs of our social framework. These factors are not new, yet they are complex to address.

To remain relevant as a profession, it is critical that we remain adaptive in understanding the value we bring to the table, and responsive around professional development to ensure that our skills are able to deliver on that value. The opportunities and challenges in the value proposition include revisiting governance and reporting frameworks, responding to obsolescence in the delivery of traditional accounting services, enhancing insight through advancing analytical tools, and bridging the professional development between aspiring and experienced CPAs.

As a board member, I look forward to being part of the journey and contributing towards the success of the profession.

How do your skills and background position you to positively contribute to the CPA Alberta Board and lead the governance of the profession?

One of my key strengths throughout my career has been the ability to self-reflect and evolve to the demands of the business environment. I have provided services as a trusted advisor through a variety of roles including, but not limited to, audit, risk and compliance; historical and future- oriented financial and economic analysis; strategic mergers and acquisitions; business restructuring initiatives; strategic planning; change management; enhancing financial decision-making insight; creating and leading high- performing teams; and pursuing initiatives that promote a positive work culture.

My effectiveness in delivering successful outcomes is underpinned by my high degree of systems awareness, an ability to achieve outcomes through a strategic and purposeful focus, and an ability to develop talent and collaborative teams. I believe these attributes will positively contribute to my role as a Board member and the leadership required to ensure a strong governance framework for the CPA profession.
