Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants (FCPA)

The upper echelon of the CPA profession. Natural leaders, capable of bringing people together to reach a goal. Significant achievements in all their roles.

The Fellowship designation is granted to CPAs whose achievements in their careers and the community have earned them distinction and brought honour to the profession.

Criteria for Fellowship  

  • A Chartered Professional Accountant who is a member of CPA Alberta in good standing, who, in the opinion of the Board, has rendered meritorious service to the profession or whose career achievements or achievements in the community have brought honour to the profession, may by resolution of two-thirds of the Board members be elected a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants.
  • The individual will have demonstrated throughout their career exceptional leadership, performance and made continuous remarkable contributions that have made a significant impact in one, two, or all three of the following areas over a sustained period of time:
    • professional career, and/or
    • volunteer commitment to the accounting profession, and/or
    • volunteer contribution to the professional, community, or charitable organizations.
  • Members who reside outside the province of Alberta may be considered for an FCPA for the following reasons:
    • contributions relevant to the Alberta CPA profession or community, and/or
    • exceptional service to the Canadian or international CPA profession.
  • FCPAs are not granted posthumously, the date of granting is the date of the CPA Alberta Board of Directors’ meeting at which awards are adjudicated.
  • To avoid any perceived conflict of interest:
    • Members of the CPA Alberta Board of Directors, CPA Alberta Award Nominations Committee, and CPA Alberta Award Review Committee are ineligible for receipt of any CPA Alberta Achievement Award during their terms of service.
    • Members of the CPA Alberta Board of Directors and CPA Alberta Award Review Committee are not permitted to nominate members for any CPA Alberta Achievement Award during their terms of service.

Samples of Supporting Documentation for Fellowship  

Your nomination should include letters, audio or video files of support, specifically articulating how the nominee has demonstrated, throughout their career, exceptional leadership, performance, and made continuous remarkable contributions that have made a remarkable impact in one, two, or all three of the following areas: professional career, and/or volunteer commitment to the accounting profession, and/or volunteer contribution to professional, community, or charitable organizations. 

Multiple support materials articulating the same accomplishment are not required, direct third party validation is preferred. Content and depth over quantity of support material is necessary.
