Distinguished Accomplishment Award (DAA)

Integral to the success of organizations they serve. The driving force behind projects and teams. A genuine interest in helping and making a difference.

The Distinguished Accomplishment Award recognizes CPAs, or supporters of the profession, who have demonstrated a significant accomplishment or contribution within the last five years.

Criteria for the Distinguished Accomplishment Award

Criteria for CPAs:

  • A Chartered Professional Accountant who is a member of CPA Alberta in good standing.
  • The individual has made a significant accomplishment or contribution within at least the last five years as demonstrated by a significant impact in one or more of the following areas:
    • Volunteer contribution to professional, community, or charitable organizations, or
    • Excellence, innovation or remarkable accomplishment in their career or the field of accounting in general, or
    • Mentor excellence, by significantly contributing to the growth and professional development of Alberta CPAs.
  • The DAA may be presented to an FCPA.
  • DAAs are not granted posthumously, the date of granting is the date of the CPA Alberta Board of Directors’ meeting at which awards are adjudicated.
  • A DAA may be received more than once.
  • To avoid any perceived conflict of interest:
    • Members of the CPA Alberta Board of Directors, CPA Alberta Award Nominations Committee, and CPA Alberta Award Review Committee are ineligible for receipt of any CPA Alberta Achievement Award during their terms of service.
    • Members of the CPA Alberta Board of Directors and CPA Alberta Award Review Committee are not permitted to nominate members for any CPA Alberta Achievement Award during their terms of service.

Criteria for non-CPAs:

  • The individual has made a significant accomplishment or contribution within at least the last five years which positively contributes to the accounting profession and/or to the professional development of CPAs, as demonstrated by a significant impact in one or more of the following areas:
  • Significant support to the CPA Alberta profession, or
  • Significant leadership or accomplishment in the field of accounting or business generally, provided there is a direct connection or benefit to the CPA Alberta profession, or
  • Mentor excellence, by significantly contributing to the growth and professional development of Alberta CPAs.
  • DAAs are not granted posthumously; the date of granting is the date of the CPA Board meeting at which awards are adjudicated.
  • A DAA may be received more than once.
  • To avoid any perceived conflict of interest:
    • Members of the CPA Alberta Board of Directors, CPA Alberta Award Nominations Committee, and CPA Alberta Award Review Committee are ineligible for receipt of any CPA Alberta Achievement Award during their terms of service.

Samples of Supporting Documentation for the Distinguished Accomplishment Award

Your nomination should include letters, audio, or video files of support, specifically articulating: 

1) For a CPA: How the nominee has made a remarkable impact within the last five years as demonstrated by: commitment and excellence in community or volunteer services (e.g., civic, political, charitable, professional, business or industry association), or excellence, innovation or remarkable accomplishment in their career or the field of accounting in general, or mentor excellence, by significantly contributing to the development of new CPAs and their ability to exercise sound professional judgement. Multiple support materials articulating the same accomplishment are not required. Content and depth over quantity of support material is necessary.

2) For a non-CPA: How the nominee has made a remarkable impact within the last five years which positively contributes to the accounting profession and/or to the professional development of CPAs, as demonstrated by: significant support to the CPA Alberta profession, or significant leadership or accomplishment in the field of accounting or business generally, provided there is a direct connection or benefit to the CPA Alberta profession, or mentor excellence, by significantly contributing to the professional development of new Alberta CPAs and their ability to exercise sound professional judgement.
Multiple support materials articulating the same accomplishment are not required, direct third party validation is preferred. Content and depth over quantity of support material is necessary.
