What is a three-year rolling cycle?

The CPD requirement for the three-year cycle is 120 hours, of which 60 hours must be verifiable learning.  This cycle is comprised of the current reporting year and the last two years in which you did not receive an exemption.
The annual requirement is 20 hours of new CPD learning, 10 of which must be verifiable.  It is then up to you to determine how you meet the 120 hour requirement (including the four verifiable hours of ethics) in the three-year period. Some examples of how you could meet this requirement would be:

2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023
40 hrs 50 hrs 30 hrs
  50 hrs 30 hrs 40 hrs
    30 hrs 40 hrs 50 hrs
      40 hrs 50 hrs 30 hrs (E)

(E) 4 hours of verifiable professional ethics is required by Dec 31, 2023, if you did not claim any exemptions between 2021 and 2022.

If you received an exemption within the last three years, that year is excluded from your rolling total.

For example:

  • 2020 Comply (Year 1)
  • 2021 Comply (Year 2)
  • 2022 Exempt (Exclude)
  • 2023 Comply (Year 3)

In this case, you must include 2020 in your three-year rolling total as 2022 is excluded due to the exemption.

Despite the above-mentioned, any CPD learning activities you may have participated in during the exempt year (as per example above 2022), may be included towards meeting the three-year rolling requirement. For example, if you took courses while on maternity/paternal leave, those courses may count towards your 3-year rolling total, however you cannot use them as part of your annual total the following year.
