Data Storytelling Part One: Crafting Compelling Narratives for Organizational Impact

Knowing how to create a data story enhances communication, enabling effective presentation of complex information to various stakeholders. This workshop is focused on the fundamentals of Data storytelling and explores techniques to craft compelling presentations. Learn audience analysis, effective visual communication, and clear chart and graph design. Discover strategies to maintain audience attention and apply design principles for impactful presentations. Gain skills in building persuasive narratives using scientific foundations and the three-act approach.

By the end of Part One, you'll be equipped to apply these techniques in real-world scenarios, communicating effectively with senior management, boards of directors, and external stakeholders. Part One concepts are further developed in Part Two and applied through an interactive case study.

  • Recognize the significance of data storytelling in conveying complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Examine the psychological mechanisms underlying decision making and the influence of emotions on data interpretation.

  • Practice crafting compelling data stories by incorporating elements such as character, conflict, and resolution to captivate and persuade audiences.

Chris Wyman

Chris Wyman is the President of Pathfinder Business Consulting. Prior to starting his own company, Chris had over 25 years of experience within the finance industry and was most recently the Vice President of Learning and Development for a Canadian-based training firm. Throughout his career in finance, Chris has experienced a variety of roles, from Internal Audit Director to Commercial Banking Account Manager. He draws on his extensive range of experience when delivering seminars related to management principles, financial statement analysis, process management and corporate GRC (governance, risk management and compliance).

Chris holds his CPA designation, the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation, and the IIA’s Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA).
