Indigenous Learners in Accounting

Indigenous Learners in Accounting (ILA)

CPA courses and modules developed for Indigenous learners by Indigenous subject matter experts

Indigenous students face many systemic barriers within post-secondary and professional education due to societal biases and colonial legacy. To reduce and remove these barriers, the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Alberta and the CPA Western School of Business partnered to create the Indigenous Learners in Accounting initiative.

The initiative includes select CPA preparatory courses and CPA Professional Education Program modules redefined to better support Indigenous learners. The courses and modules are:

  • Developed by Indigenous subject matter experts;
  • Designed to include Indigenous content, context, culture;
  • Taught by Indigenous instructors; and,
  • Supported by Indigenous facilitators.

I am so thrilled. I'm already learning so much. I've made some really nice connections. I've connected to my culture more than ever before. It's been such an amazing experience.
– Ashley Comrie, Indigenous Learners in Accounting student and member of the Métis Nations of Alberta
