As a CPA Alberta Tax Clinic Volunteer, there are several ways in which you can participate. Click on the descriptions below to learn more.

Volunteer Roles

CPAs and PEP Candidates are required to have at least three years of tax preparation experience.

Phone support volunteers will act as an additional resource to volunteers by answering questions related to completing personal tax returns—should the need arise.

Ideally, a phone volunteer would commit to one week of phone support.

Individuals interested in volunteering for a phone support position must be a designated CPA and have a minimum of three years of tax clinic experience; work experience in the tax field; attend an information session; be available in the evenings from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.; weekends from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and have experience using ProFile tax software.

Number of calls per day, if any, many vary.

Preparers prepare a pre-determined number of returns virtually using ShareFile, a safe and secure cloud based file sharing software for low income Albertans. ProFile by Intuit is provided free of charge for use at clinics.

Volunteers provide assistance in the completion of a tax return based on information supplied by the taxpayer.

Download the Community Partners, Tax Payer and Volunteer Responsibilities Guide to understand everyone's role at a Tax Clinic.
